Drinks and nibbles at The Adamson

When you plan a girls’ weekend, cocktails and nibbles should be a fundamental part of the itinerary, am I right? When we decided we were going to St Andrews, I knew we had to stop at The Adamson for pre-dinner cocktails – having eaten there before, I knew the girls would love the low-key party atmosphere.

After we were shown to our table on the terrace (right outside the new sister-restaurant, The Hatch), a cocktail tree was brought to us (it holds nine drinks based on three recipes) along with a few starters. My favourite cocktail was the Lady Dalton, a fruity, gin-based drink with lemon – two were enough for me, though somehow we did manage to polish all nine cocktails off within a couple of hours…

The food was superb. We were served scallops (I can’t eat them, but the girls said they were perfectly done, and I have to say they looked beautiful on the plate), salmon, and duck spring rolls. The salmon was fresh, with caviar (love it? hate it? love it), and, somewhat surprisingly, the horseradish mousse worked really well with the fish. I love a duck spring roll (it’s my supermarket New Year’s Eve snack of choice) but these were on another level – delightfully crunchy on the outside, packed with soft, succulent meat inside. There was a lot of wheeling and dealing going on to split the dishes – basically I gave up my scallop for an extra bite of duck and I wasn’t mad about it.

Duck spring rolls with spring onion, sesame seeds and hoisin.

The Adamson is a really exciting restaurant and bar with a buzz-y atmosphere, really cool drinks, and food that will leave you wanting to go back for more before you’ve even finished what’s on your plate.

The signature cocktail tree includes three of each cocktail: The Physician (Finlandia, St Germain, cranberry, raspberry, mint and lime), Lady Dalton (Bombay Sapphire, Créme de Peche, Grand Marnier, lemon), and a Cosmopolitan (Grey Goose citron, Cointreau, cranberry and lime).

Cocktails and food were complimentary with no obligation to post.
