Scottish Hairdresser of the Year 2012

The Daydreamer was excited to see that Kay McIntyre of McIntyres hair salons in Dundee received the Scottish Hairdresser of the Year 2012 award last night at the British Hairdressing Awards. My mum is a hairdresser by trade, so I’ve always had an interest in hair and beauty – I was delighted to learn that a Dundee based business has been recognised at a national event which is considered by leading hairdressers across the globe as one of the most prestigious awards in the industry.
Kay McIntyre’s achievement (this is the third time she has received the coveted award) is another notch on Dundee’s increasingly stylish belt. The city is receiving a lot of interest in relation to fashion, beauty and style (think V&A at Dundee, Hayley Scanlan, Jane Gowans, Maggie’s Farm, Face of Freedom, etc) and the interest in the city of Dundee is sure to snowball as our Waterfront Project develops.

Back to our Dundee winner. The British Hairdressing Awards was hosted by David Walliams (who recently announced that his supermodel wife, Lara Stone, is expecting their first child next year) at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London. As last night’s award was her third win, Kay will now be inducted into the BHA Hall of Fame as one of the UK’s leading hairdressers, alongside hairdressing experts such as Nicky Clarke, Trevor Sorbie and the amazingly talented Sam McKnight.
Kay’s winning hair collection entitled “Gothic Fantasy” was inspired by fantasy fairytales and the work of film director Tim Burton. “The hair has a great combination of attitude and softness which I think sums up most women pretty well,” explained Kay. “To be recognised by the industry as a style leader and to be representing Dundee on an a national level is a great feeling. I can’t wait to get back to the salon with my award and celebrate this success with all the team and clients. What a great start to McIntyres celebrating 21 years of business in 2013.”
