Out of all the sporting events in the world there are just a few I’m really interested in, and Royal Ascot is one of them – of course, the horses are beautiful and I’d like to learn more about the racing and how the horses are looked after but, for me, it’s the fashions of Ladies’ Day that draw me in. I find the tradition and heritage appealing, and the elegance of the event brings me an old-world sense of joy. I love the style rules! Old fashioned maybe, but I see it more as a gesture of respect and I’d use it as a security blanket, a guide on what to wear rather than a dictation.
Each June I pore over the photographs of Ladies’ Day, ooh-ing and ah-ing over the beautiful dresses and millinery masterpieces. I’d love to go myself one year but, for now, the closest I’ll get is parading around my local park in a pretty dress and heels and the LK Bennett x Royal Ascot collection has the most delightful array of summer styles to choose from. As the Official Ladies Fashion Licensee of Royal Ascot 2022, LK Bennett knows sophistication and style, and their Royal Ascot pieces are designed for any enclosure, to be worn time and time again at lots of summer events. This one I’m wearing is the Phelia dress in mint apple blossom. It’s wonderfully light and airy as it’s made of cotton, and the midi length is right up my street. A sweetheart neckline with little bow is a pretty detail, while the puff sleeves and pockets (pockets!) keep the dress firmly in 2022. I paired it with the Lucie pink daisy shoes – they’re super comfy and I think they’ll look just as lovely with a pair of jeans, though I don’t think denim is on the Ascot approved list…
