Waiting for summer

I’m tired of waiting for summer, are you? Most mornings this past week or so I’ve woken up to bright blue skies, but when I step outdoors I dash back in for my black winter coat (it’s times like these that I wish I had a spring coat in eggshell blue, or millennial pink). The sunshine is deceiving; yes, the Sun has got his hat on, and yes, he’s come out to play – but so has his friend Cold Wind and he ain’t playing nice…

Last week I took the opportunity to shoot this peasant dress and straw basket while it was sunny. It was freezing, but regardless, I do hope that it inspires a few summer purchases… honestly, the warm weather can’t be too far away now, can it? It is, after all, officially May. And, between May and September, I refuse to wear tights, so I really, really hope the temperatures rise soon.

Anyway, I’m well prepared for when things do heat up. This dress is so floaty and cool, it’s Coachella but for real life, no? It’s viscose (I love viscose and cotton for summertime), and it’s forgiving, so you can enjoy a champagne picnic at the beach without worrying about post-party bloat. It would look great worn for this cooler, spring weather with a huge, chunky cardigan and a pair of tan suede ankle boots, swapping the basket for a bucket bag. Thoughts? The sunglasses are a modern approach to the oversize Jackie O shades we’ve loved for so long, the espadrilles are comfortable, soft and pretty, with no rubbing. Husband hates them, baffles me. I need the black ones too, but I’d get the higher wedge I think.

While we’re here, I decided to relax about the braces and just smile widely for the camera. The braces are cumbersome and ugly but I hope you can see how my teeth have changed in just under six months? Beneath all that metal, there’s a smile I’m starting to be proud of. I’ve also started embracing my curls again. What do you think?

For now, I’m back in my jeans and knitwear, waiting not-so-patiently for summer to make a welcome appearance.
