What does one wear to fashion week in Melbourne? Black, of course!
Thankfully, Melbourne locals love a bit of black, so I wasn’t too worried about looking as though I was going to a funeral rather than to fashion events. For the GQ show, I wore this LBD, which I bought in Australia a couple of years ago, with these amazing red suede tassel sandals by Next (real suede, very comfortable and totally on trend – as good with jeans as with a dress) and my new favourite arm candy by Radley (this bag is seriously the best thing ever, I wore it the entire time in Melbourne). For the Harper’s Bazaar show, I wore more black, this time a pair of Zara wide leg trousers, but with a white top and the red sandals to break up the black, and I had intended to wear another black dress by Coast for the Vogue show but we didn’t have time to go back to the hotel to change…. Drama! Ended up in my white jeans and smelly shirt. So fabulous.
Why do I always go to black? It’s just chic. It’s flattering and usually suits everyone. Black takes you from day to night, from the office to the bar, and can look edgy or pretty depending on how you style it. This dress in particular is super easy to wear; the stretch fabric makes it comfortable, while the length works well with flats or heels. I can throw a jumper over the top for casual look, I can put my hair up for a sportier look, or I can leave my hair down for a more glamorous, evening look. This dress is one of my favourites because of its versatility. It took up little space in my suitcase, and I wore it at fashion week and while chilling out at the vineyard we stayed at (I’ll share this look with you tomorrow). And, at just 18 dollars, this dress is proof that you don’t have to spend the earth on your LBDs – fashion week or not.
