Being based in Dundee means I often miss out on various events in Scotland because – generally speaking – they are mostly held in Glasgow or Edinburgh. As much as I’d love to attend them all, it’s not always feasible – so, last year I started organising my own events in association with Debenhams. Having hosted the events in Edinburgh and Glasgow as a way to capture a wider guest list, I decided this year to host an intimate gathering in my home city; yesterday, it was afternoon tea at Dundee’s newest (and possibly most stylish) hotel, Malmaison Dundee.
Above: Laura from the Press Office for Debenhams in Scotland and Ireland; me, not wearing black; Rachel, Personal Shopper at Debenhams and blogger at Tender Loving Style.
The guests arrived to a glass of champagne in Malmaison‘s super pretty cocktail bar before being shown to our table in the function suite, which looked super pretty thanks to the gorgeous floral centrepieces by Acanthus, the array of colourful Urban Decay cosmetics (there were make up artists on hand to give us tutorials and demos), and the summer collection by Debenhams, which had a strong bohemian-meets-festival vibe with 70s prints, tan suede, white broderie anglaise and relaxed trousers and tops and which would easily carry you through to autumn.
The girls and I enjoyed a yummy plate of delicate sandwiches (salmon, cucumber, egg) and mini cakes (cream scones, Victoria sponge, crème brulee tart, chocolate cake) with our tea, and Lynsay was particularly impressed by her ‘Mal’ branded coffee – visit her Twitter profile to see! My fellow bloggers (Florals and Corals, Honey Pop Kisses, GG Bobs Her Hair, Tender Loving Style and Miss West End Girl) and I chatted about animal friendly beauty products, the upcoming Edinburgh International Fashion Festival and future trips we’re taking (Bali, Florida and Paris Fashion Week to name a few – but sadly, not for me). I took the opportunity to really push Dundee as the place to be in Scotland right now; I raved about our indie retailers (including Hard Grind, Lovely Things, Rosy Tuesday’s, Spex Pistols, M Boutique and The Greenroom) and spoke to everyone about the V&A Dundee – the lovely Tara from the V&A Dundee project came along to give an informal presentation on the plans, and chatted with guests about the inspiration the V&A Dundee will provide for bloggers and creatives in Scotland.
What’s next for The Daydreamer? I’m thinking The Daydreamer’s Cocktail Hour – who’s in?
With enormous thanks to Malmaison Dundee and Malmaison Hotels for hosting us – the service was impeccable, the event went smoothly and the cakes were DELISH.
Thanks to the local retailers who provided goody bag supplies – Hard Grind, Lovely Things, Rosy Tuesday’s, Spex Pistols, M Boutique and The Greenroom.
Thanks to Debenhams for goody bags and their never ending support.
