The Daydreamer Goes To London

Yesterday, Mr Man and I visited London for the day. We left Paddington station (no sight of Paddington Bear!) and strolled through the leafy streets of W1 and W2 until we reached Hyde Park, where we looked longingly at those who had hired Boris Bikes, and I cooed over every dog that passed us. There were yummy mummies with prams (and a token yummy daddy – doesn’t have the same ring to it though, does it?) and city workers eating lunch on the grass in the dappled sunlight, enjoying those 60 minutes of freedom that are so precious on fine summer days. We stood in awe at The Albert Memorial before making our way to Princess Diana’s fountain, where we laughed at the kids playing in the water. A quick bite to eat in the form of a cheeseburger beneath a weeping willow at the lake was next, before feeding the ducks our leftover rolls.

A walk along Oxford Street took us to Selfridges, so, of course, we had to pop in (can you believe I’ve never stepped foot inside before?!) but I resisted the huge temptation to buy a pair of Dior sunglasses, which I am still obsessing over now. We took the tube to the Thames, where we joined the sea of tourists at Westminster taking thousands of photographs, before zipping along the Bakerloo line back to Paddington to catch the train back to Oxford in time for dinner. A perfect day for Mr & Mrs M in the Big Smoke. Minus Dior.
