Snow day

Just as we were starting to feel hopeful for spring, the snowstorm came.

Just a week ago, I had started thinking about the spring dresses in my wardrobe, the ones that have been stored away over the winter months. I’d begun to wonder how I might wear them in a few weeks’ time, most likely with ankle boots and cosy knits. However, despite the springtime daydreams, the reality of winter snow was a welcome surprise – it’s nice to have something new to get excited about these days.

We took the kids up to our local park with their sledges and spent 20 minutes pulling them up the hill and asking them if they wanted us to go down with them, more of a desperate attempt to relive our own childhoods than concerned parents. It was a reminder, once again, that there is joy to be taken in the simplest of things – a lesson learned in 2020 and a re-education that seems set to continue this year.
