Why I’m not saving my pretty dresses for best

You know that old saying ‘save it for best’? It’s pretty much lost its meaning this year, hasn’t it?

2020 has certainly shown me that there’s little point in saving things for best, especially when the best thing happening is a walk or lunch with friends. Gone are the days of summer garden parties, of concerts and shows, of exciting dates marked in diaries, like the races and weddings. Major events aren’t really happening anymore – the most exciting prospects this year have been on a much smaller, much more intimate scale.

Lockdown highlighted a lot of issues, but one of them was finding joy in the simple things, like those walks and lunches. Now is the time to wear what makes us happy, doing something that makes us happy, like wearing your prettiest dress for a walk, or a power suit while working at home, or your highest, most glamorous heels for a glass of wine with your friends. Surely that’s the best?
