A Special Date

Last Friday, Mr Daydreamer and I celebrated our fourth wedding anniversary but, sadly, we were unable to celebrate together on the day as he was off to win Photographer of the Year at the Regional Press Awards in London, and by the time he got home I was working at the art, design and architecture degree show. However, my love spoiled me with breakfast in bed before he left, and a huge bouquet of flowers were delivered to the office later that afternoon – he even requested peonies, our wedding flower.

Traditionally, the gift for the fourth wedding anniversary is fruit and flowers, and my darling husband excelled as usual by spoiling me with breakfast and a bouquet three times the size of my head. I on the other hand had planned a surprise (he doesn’t really like surprises) for the Sunday afternoon, the idea being for us spend a few hours together enjoying cake in the beautiful Scottish countryside, with flowers and fruit being the focal point of our date. I made a picnic of egg sandwiches and a naked sponge decorated with strawberries, raspberries, blueberries and fresh roses, and Blooming Bees created a gorgeous selection of floral arrangements for our alfresco lunch. There was a basket filled with Californian Poppies, Sweet Williams and Iris, a tree peony as a buttonhole for him, a clematis crown for me, and even a floral collar for Jake (who was so excited that he ruined it soon afterwards). My favourite display was the Dundee marmalade pot filled with a wild posy – so, so pretty. Blooming Bees use seasonal flowers grown at home on a farm just passed Forfar – what I love most is that they don’t use nasty pesticides, so the flowers are completely natural. They were the perfect decoration for our fourth anniversary celebration.

There will be a pop-up flower stall and jam jar workshops at the shop as part of British Flowers Week (see more details below). Have a bit of fun supporting local businesses – shopping and fresh flowers, the perfect way to spend an hour or two this summer.
