New York Fashion Week SS13: Oscar de la Renta

As New York Fashion Week draws to a close, I thought I’d share with you my favourite Spring/Summer 2013 looks from one of my all-time favourite designers, Oscar de la Renta.
Oscar de la Renta designs clothes that suit women of all (luxury) lifestyles, from women in politics and young actresses on the red carpet to social butterflies and fashion bloggers. This is what I love most about de la Renta: that that he designs clothes that work on the female figure. I’m all for the androgynous look (I would give anything to be a Freja Beha), but when it comes to women with curves or women with office jobs or women who just like to look nice, OdlR is the go-to label. Oscar de la Renta manages to create a sophisticated “Uptown” vibe by using classic fabrics such as wool and tweed in timeless silhouettes, while transforming the elegantly cut clothes into 21st century pieces with finishing touches such as fur, embellishment and glamorous accessories.
For next season, de le Renta has introduced some “fashion” elements into his designs; latex, evening shorts and thigh-high splits were dotted among the practical pant suits, pretty dresses and neat knitwear, making for a refreshing and interesting collection. The SS13 collection retains the classic OdlR style that we love him for (and every OdlR fan will find something for her new spring/summer wardrobe next year), but for next season, our Oscar is obviously feeling fun and flirty if his new additions are anything to go by.
