With the beginning of autumn comes next spring… Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week kicked off last week, and as usual, Jason Wu has created another great collection for next season.
The Jason Wu girl is fun, flirty and young, but she’s classy too – she always wears neatly pressed skirts, sharp shirts and pretty dresses, which her fashionable aunt might borrow… but for next spring the Wu girl is a bit more grown up, with a bit more polish and a slightly edgy side that we first caught a glimpse of for AW11.
Next spring, the Jason Wu girl is experimenting with colour and prints by mixing them with neutrals, she’s trying new things while staying true to herself. For day, she’s wearing tiny shorts with printed blouses and transparent raincoats; skirts with flowing trains, bare legs and tough sandals; peg leg trousers and sheer blouses. For evening, she’s taken inspiration from that wonderful aunt again, who wears Oscar de la Renta and attends chic dinner parties – brightly coloured, voluminous gowns accessorised with black bows; chic monochrome separates; peplums, feathers and bows.
The Jason Wu girl is fast becoming the Jason Wu woman – and it suits her.
