Hutcheson’s Bubbles & Brunch

Walking into Hutcheson’s City Grill is like walking into a scene from a 1920s film set. It’s super stylish with an old-glamour to it. The dark wooden flooring and features, the small but plentiful lighting, the mirrored shelving housing spirit bottles behind the bar, the velvet green chairs, the Krug champagne bottles on display – even the tall plants dotted around the room – create a very Art Deco vibe. It makes me feel like part of a special club, where the women wear lipstick and the men’s drink of choice is an Old Fashioned.

Whenever I have plans to go to Hutcheson’s (which is pretty much anytime I’m in Glasgow) I’ll make an effort with my outfit (usually all black, a great coat), and touch up my make up, refresh my fragrance (I’m a Black Orchid girl through and through, but I’m currently loving Jo Malone’s Dark Amber & Gingerlily). Isn’t it funny how a venue can affect how you feel about yourself? For me, it’s fun – I love to imagine being part of a bygone era and decor plays such an important part of that.

Anyway, the food. I’ve had Bubbles & Brunch before, with the lovely Tatyana from LAFOTKA, so I knew mum and I were in for a treat during our Christmas-shopping trip. It’s usually £50 for two, but Hutcheson’s treated us; your fifty quid goes far though, as we were brought a chilled bottle of prosecco within minutes of being seated, followed by freshly baked croissants and orange juice. As if that wasn’t enough, you choose a brunch dish from the menu (I had truffle portobello florentine, mum had the fry-up, shopping fuel at its best) and we even had cappuccinos too, just to keep the prosecco head at bay…

The only thing I will say is that we waited half an hour for our food despite there being only one other couple ordering at the same time as us. Perhaps Hutcheson’s were just giving us time to eat our croissants… little do they know that I inhale pastries on the regular.

The Bubbles & Brunch experience is really lovely, and special, and if you’ve plans to be in Glasgow I’d definitely recommend it, particularly at this time of year. Bubbles, brunch and beautiful surroundings, what better way to treat yourself or a loved one?

Thank you to Hutcheson’s for having us.
