Hitched: A Style Icon

One of my all-time style icons got hitched last week and I’ve been DYING to see how she looked as a bride. I embarked on a serious girl crush after watching Olivia Palermo on MTV’s The City, in which she was portrayed as a frosty magazine editor, emphasised by the warm, girl-next-door vibe of co-star Whitney Port. Since then, I’ve watched Palermo’s style evolve in magazines and online, whether with her beau Johannes Huebl on the beach or on the front row at fashion week. Regardless of occasion, Olivia Palermo is effortlessly chic: she dresses with sophistication and yet never seems to look older than her years. She epitomises class, which isn’t often seen in today’s world of celebrity.
After my time as editor of a wedding glossy last year, I have a teeny tiny fascination with brides. Having looked at them endlessly, in every form (real brides, model brides, catwalk brides, young brides, old brides, famous brides), I find it so much more lovely to see a woman who has chosen her bridal look to fit with her personality, a woman who has considered both the bridal trends as well as the longevity of a dress, but whose choice really reflects who she is.

When Olivia Palermo appeared on the cover of US BRIDES in June, it was clear she would be a beautiful bride regardless of her choice of gown. Of course, the socialite, model and entrepreneur’s choice of bridal attire did not disappoint – shunning the classic bridal gown for something a touch less formal,  the bride wore Carolina Herrera separates; white shorts beneath a full tulle skirt, teamed with a white cashmere sweater scattered with ostrich feathers (could ostrich feathers BE any more dreamland-esque?). Palermo’s simple ponytail and blue Manolo Blahniks (yep, the same ones worn by SATC character, Carrie Bradshaw) complemented her polished but simplistic attitude towards dressing.
Her groom, Johannes Heubl (the couple have been together for over six years) also wore white; a bespoke tailored Marc Anthony Hamburg suit and piquet shirt, with a navy Etro pocket square and navy tie by Charvet.

Somehow, Palermo looked even better than she did in her aforementioned wedding magazine shoot – obviously, being (and looking) yourself is a hugely important part of your wedding day, and something that every bride should aspire to.

With our without the Manolos.

Her own attire for her wedding was more attractive than the wedding cover in my opinion too!
