Hanneli x Deichmann

Vogue. America’s Next Top Model. These are just two of the brands that the hugely successful fashion blogger, Hanneli Mustaparta, has worked with; she is a Norweigan beauty with cheekbones that could cut ice (needless to say, she used to be a model), and her incredible eye for fashion has enabled her to make a living from her blog, photography and styling by working with brands such as these. One of her latest projects (she’s in high demand) is collaborating with shoe brand Deichmann to create a limited edition collection, which launched on Tuesday this week. The result? A clever merging of high fashion with high street, irresistible to money-conscious shoppers across the globe.

As with other Deichmann collections (at over 100 years old, it’s a brand that takes pride in its reputation of marrying fashion with affordability), the ten-piece Hanneli line is practical and wearable; it features four pairs of heels and six flats. The difference with this collection is that, although it has been designed with a former high fashion model, it’s believable – Hanneli has a ‘girl-next-door’ look despite her annoyingly good genes and couture wardrobe, so it’s easier to understand than the slightly extreme Deichmann collaborations that have gone before it, such as those with 90s supermodel, Cindy Crawford and Hollywood A-lister, Halle Berry.

Along with the initial concept of the project, the production stages have been well considered; it’s clear by the detail that Hanneli had a significant input in the design and styling processes, and Deichmann the manufacturing process by the unexpected good quality (I requested a couple of samples to be sure). For example, the staple court shoe is made interesting thanks to its glittering gold fabric, while a new lease of life has been given to the basic Chelsea boot by its chunky silhouette and patent finish – but both are well made and are at good price points. Hanneli Mustaparta for Deichmann gently pushes the loyal Deichmann customer out of their comfort zone and receives second glances from the previously uninterested trend-shopper, who reads style blogs and checks Instagram fifty times a day to shop the latest trends in the fastest way possible.

The two star pieces of the collection are quite different but both represent Hanneli and Deichmann brilliantly. First is the over-the-knee biker boot. With its flat sole and simple structure, it talks to the Deichmann customer, but the fashionable OTK design and biker detail appeals to fashion lovers. The price (£34.99) engages both.

Second is the lace up formal shoe, a reddish-brown brogue. At just £24.99, it’s a shoe that reaches out to everyone, regardless of age and salary; it would work just as well with a school uniform for the final year of high school as it would with a pair of tailored cigarette trousers for the boardroom.

By purchasing both of these star pieces, the wearer is unlikely to need anything else this season. Whether they want more, well, that’s another matter.
