Last night I attend a festive gathering at French Connection, Overgate in Dundee. They were spoiling their Christmas shoppers with fizz and cupcakes and plenty of sequins – what more could you hope for at Christmastime?
I fell in love with the blush, sequined tops which were juxtaposed by the boyfriend jeans hanging on the rail beside them. Perfect together, or separately. The two kind of sum up the AW14 collection at French Connection: this season, there’s plenty of glitz and glamour for parties and nights out, but also lots of cosy winter knits and furs for day. It’s great to find a high street brand that provides for all our needs, rather than offering one typical style which might not be suited to all – a difficult balance to achieve when the purpose of the high street is to appeal to the masses.
My favourite pieces? The dove grey coat with fur collar; a black jumper with oversize fur cuffs; and a powder blue coat that is just dying to be worn on a sunny winter’s day, sequins or no. In addition, French Connection has produced a lot of classic styles with clever details, including a black top with pearl neckline and a white blouse with embellished collar. It’s grown up glamour – understated, but it makes you look twice.
