When it comes to jewellery, I have my favourite pieces (which include this Alex Monroe necklace) that are special to me and (by chance), they’re not cheap. However, I use accessories to change a look or tap into a trend and for this I tend to go for higher end high street jewellery – that way, I’m not spending a huge amount of money but equally, I’m not wasting money on rings that turn my fingers green. So. Gross.
My favourite haunts for costume and trendy jewellery include Coast, Accessorize (especially the Z for Accessorize range by Zara Simon) and THEOUTNET.COM for bargain designer jewellery such as Kenneth Jay Lane and Monica Vinader. That said, as much as I love to shop for bargain I do try to support independent and local designers too. In Dundee, my first port of call is Jane Gowans; her mainline has been worn by celebrities including Emeli Sande and is stocked in Harvey Nichols, and she’s seen huge success with her collection of pretty friendship bracelets, JG Minis – they have a cult following and are regularly featured in the gallery on Jane’s super slick website (just search #JGANDME on the site and on JG’s social media platforms).
For those who, like me, want something in between high end and high street, Jane’s latest collection is worth a look. The brand new collection, Flora & Fauna, was launched on 1st May and is a midline range for those who want delicate jewellery that they can wear every day without compromising on quality. Flora & Fauna comprises a selection of rings, earrings and necklaces inspired by nature and which are crafted from silver or oxidised silver – so they’re affordable but they retain the designer aesthetic that the Jane Gowans brand is known for. The collection is modern and current, but the quality craftsmanship and simple design means the jewellery is timeless. Starting at just £25, Flora & Fauna is a must for any jewellery collector.
