M&Co recently asked me to style a piece from their occasion wear, with a day at the races in mind. (See what I did there? Culottes to trot? Ba-boom!)
So, while I was browsing the collection, this black jumpsuit really caught my eye. Culottes are a major trend this season and they’re a great way to dress up without feeling trussed up, so to speak. Instead of automatically reaching for the failsafe (but somewhat predictable) dress, I decided to try out the jumpsuit and – although it’s black (my favourite colour, but not always summer appropriate) – it works well for a day at the races because a) black is always chic, b) culottes are totally in, and c) the hemline gives a nod to the warmer weather.
I styled the culottes with a fabulous hat and some strappy sandals to add the glam factor, while the clutch works well for the occasion but is large enough to fit your purse (for the obligatory flutter, of course), a brolly (always required for a day out in the Scottish summer), as well as all the other bits and bobs that women just can’t leave the house without.
Have you been to the races this summer? If so, what did you wear and – the real gossip – how much did you win?
I’m Wearing: jumpsuit, M&Co (£49); diamond necklace, a gift from my husband on our wedding day, plus vintage key pendant; hat, vintage shop in Burford, Oxfordshire; shoes, Schuh; clutch, Next.
