Couture SS13: Caped Elegance at Valentino

The Valentino Couture SS13 show (held in Paris last week) was a sartorial world of paradise. The collection was based on the idea of a beautiful, manicured garden in bloom but with no evidence of a gardener’s labour (i.e. blood, sweat and tears). Valentino designers, Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli excelled themselves in delivering a magical, whimsical fantasy world that is the personification of couture, but equally, their designs demonstrated the foundations of dress-making as an art craft and skill – one seamstress was reported to have acquired carpal tunnel syndrome during her contribution to producing one of the most beautiful collections of clothes in history.
