Forget sequins this season – the Dolce & Gabbana AW12 collection is my style inspiration this winter. All that black and gold brocade, with bejewelled headbands and opulent accessories make me want to dress up all day, every day this winter. Black and gold is the perfect alternative to sequins this party season; the ancient Italian colour scheme is so much more chic than an overdose of sparkle at Christmas time.
If you love the look, you can recreate it with help from the high street; simply choose lots of Baroque-inspired pieces such as jacquard skirts, high-neck lace blouses and embroidered jackets. Layer up with black and gold jewellery, with gemstones and pearls wherever possible!
DIY options might be to embellish an old box clutch with oversize pearls, or to pin oversize black and gold brooches to your favourite court shoes. Another easy way to access this trend without spending a fortune is to take a wide, velvet alice band and glue red, black and pearl gems on to it – team with gold chandelier earrings for instant opulence.
There are some amazing pieces to be found on the high street; The Daydreamer has picked out a few favourites below. The Accessorize AW12 campaign image is a great starting point, and hopefully you end up like the Dolce models for your finishing point!
