Beauty Busters: Tom Ford Hydrating Emulsion

Regular readers of The Daydreamer will know that my signature scent is Black Orchid by Tom Ford and although I love the perfume, I was so disappointed when they discontinued the body lotion. However, Tom Ford has remedied the situation – the new Black Orchid Hydrating Emulsion (simply a posh name for lotion) is launching this month and – lucky girl that I am – I was sent a preview sample to try. Unsurprisingly, I love it.

The packaging is a slick as ever – classic black with gold plaque – and the product itself smells divine. Obviously, the notes are the same as those which make up the Black Orchid fragrance, but what I love about the emulsion is that it soaks into your skin and in turn, the fragrance lingers all day. The perfume is great and I always receive compliments on it, but I find that by the latter part of the day I can’t smell it anymore! (They do say you shouldn’t be able to smell your own perfume though). However, I applied the Hydrating Emulsion today at 8 am and almost five hours later, I can still smell the beautiful notes of jasmine, patchouli and sandalwood. Just an hour ago, I was complimented in the office today with the exact words, “Ooh, you smell nice!” Result.

The emulsion is quite thick in texture and doesn’t look particularly nice. BUT it seems to actually work, so I don’t really care that it looks like yellowed live yoghurt. My skin feels hydrated and smooth and quite often with fragranced body creams, you find they don’t actually moisturise the skin, whereas Tom Ford’s Hydrating Emulsion does. I’d be inclined to wear the emulsion on a daily basis and spritz some of the fragrance for evenings, for days when I’m rushing around or on particularly warm days when you might, rather unglamorously, sweat a bit more and thus require a touch more perfuming.

Overall, I’m giving Tom Ford’s Hydrating Emulsion 9.5 out of 10. If the product looked a bit prettier it would be a solid 10 out of 10 for sure, but hey, no one’s perfect, right? Well, except maybe Tom Ford himself.

Tom Ford Hydrating Emulsion, £35 for 150ml.
