After many designer collaborations, I am delighted to see that H&M are changing their approach slightly and have chosen to collaborate with an editor rather than a designer.
H&M announced today that they have teamed up with flamboyant fashion editor and stylist, Anna Dello Russo on a glamorous accessories collection. Dello Russo was famously described as a “fashion maniac” by photographer Helmut Newton; you will probably have seen her photographs from fashion week wearing runway looks from head to toe, topped with a crazy hat – the most famous being the cherries she wore atop her glossy mane. She is the epitome of the word fabulous and is often seen with her beautiful dog, Cucciolina – both of whom are adored by fashion bloggers worldwide.
Anna Dello Russo is highly respected in the fashion industry, having worked at Vogue Italia for over twelve years and at Vogue Japan as their current Fashion Director at Large and creative consultant. So the collaboration with H&M should not really come as a surprise – the fashion pack will be as aggressive when shopping for Dello Russo’s designs as they were for the Lanvin collection a few seasons ago.
Anna Dello Russo said: “I am excited by this collaboration: this is the first time H&M have involved a Fashion Director in a special project. This is the sign of an important evolution in fashion, and I am both thrilled and humbled to be the one chosen to lead it. I wanted to create precious accessories that are impossible to find. As a stylist I know accessorization is essential: it is the personal touch to any outfit. With these pieces everybody can have fun, turning an ordinary day into a fantastic fashion day.”
H&M have described the ADR x H&M collection as “unabashedly glamorous, precious and playful, an expression of Dello Russo’s taste for ornamentation.” Available from 4th October, at the peak of the global fashion weeks, the collection will be available in H&M stores worldwide as well as online, though I should think that there will be a few disappointed fans as it is bound to be a huge success. Dello Russo’s collection features jewellery, sunglasses, shoes, bags and a trolley – perhaps to carry all your ADR treasures in!
