Mum gave me a gift over the weekend. A ring, which belonged to my Great Auntie Joy. It’s opal and set high on plain gold. I love that as a whole, the ring is so simple, yet has so much depth. A plain shape and setting, a subtle stone, but a ring that carries with it a history. I think it will fit well with my jewellery. I have my understated newer pieces which hold a lot of sentiment, and I have costume jewellery which has its decorative purpose. This piece fits somewhere in the middle, and I like that about it. A bit vintage, a bit art deco, a bit Jade Jagger. Not to everyone’s taste, but nevertheless, undeniably interesting.
